Special Publications
YCF plans to publish a series of special reports to cover different market sectors in which Scotland can boast world-class strengths.
Each report will put these strengths into a global context, describing the nature and structure of the global marketplace, the factors which drive it, and the trends which can be discerned. Against this background, the description of market segments where Scottish companies excel, and the profiles of young and established companies which are exploiting outstanding research from our universities and institutes or finding a rewarding market niche, will spring into sharp relief.
The first report, on Life Sciences, was distributed to all delegates at the international BioEquity conference when it was held in Edinburgh in 2004, and the pdf of this publication can be downloaded here. BioEquity returned to Scotland for its 7th conference in May 2007, and YCF prepared a further Special Report on Life Sciences for distribution to delegates at the event.
Just published is a Special Report on Digital Entertainment in Scotland. This covers digital games, mobile, wireless, e-learning, screen and TV, and the technologies which underlie them. Content creators have a wide range of different media into which they can channel their creativity, and, prompted by demand from mobile device users, productions in one media are now often adapted for many others. This convergence of media together with the convergence of technologies is opening up many global opportunities for creative young companies, which abound in Scotland. The publication is complemented by a conference on the Digital Entertainment theme in Glasgow on 22 May (see Conferences page).
The next title in the series will be renewable energy.
